Autosave 40th Anniversary Group Shot

One of Bury’s longest-established family businesses has celebrated 40 years in business after growing from a five-person operation into a nationally recognised vehicle recycling and scrap metal company employing more than 50 people.

Founded in Bury in 1986 by Ray Packun, Autosave now serves customers across the UK from its Bury headquarters and exports engines and gearboxes to markets around the world, while remaining proudly rooted in the town where its success story began. The milestone was recently celebrated at a special anniversary event attended by employees, customers, suppliers and friends of the business.

Reflecting on the milestone, founder Ray Packun said:

“Personally, it means a great deal to Susan and me. We’ve seen massive changes in our industry over the years. There have been many ups and a few downs, but it’s been a very good journey working with a lot of great people.

“When we took over the business, there were five people employed by the company. Today we have more than 50 employees, modern facilities and a fantastic team. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built here in Bury. From a small local business, we’ve grown into a company that serves customers across the country while remaining committed to the town where it all started.”

Over the last four decades, Autosave has transformed from a modest operation into a modern vehicle recycling and scrap metal business, investing heavily in facilities, environmental systems, specialist machinery and transport infrastructure.

The company has remained committed to Bury throughout that growth, creating local employment opportunities and supporting community initiatives, charities and organisations including Bury FC. Many members of the Autosave team have spent decades with the business, helping to build the reputation and customer relationships that continue to drive its success today.

The next chapter of the business is now being led by Ray’s sons, Jake and Luke Packun, alongside their wives Kirsty and Amy, continuing the family ownership that has defined Autosave since 1986.

Jake Packun said:

“Autosave has always been a Bury business, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of. Many of our employees, customers and suppliers are local people who have supported us over the years.

“Reaching 40 years gives us an opportunity to thank everyone who has played a part in our journey. We’re proud of our history, proud of our team and excited about what the future holds.”

Luke Packun added:

“We’ve built on the foundations established by our parents, but our ambition remains firmly focused on the future.

“We continue to invest in our people, facilities and services while exploring new opportunities across vehicle recycling and scrap metal purchasing. Our goal is to ensure Autosave remains a successful Bury business serving customers nationwide for many years to come.”

While the business now operates on a national scale, the Packun family says its connection to Bury remains as important as ever.

Ray added:

“The business is in safe hands with Jake and Luke. They bring fresh ideas, energy and determination, and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds for Autosave. We have always been proud to call Bury home and that won’t change.”

The anniversary celebrations were held at East Lancashire Railway and brought together employees, customers, suppliers and friends of the business for an evening of food, entertainment and a private heritage railway experience. Guests also had the opportunity to see the world-famous Flying Scotsman, which was appearing at the railway as part of the wider celebrations.
