Quotes and Pricing

Can I get a scrap car quote online?

Yes. Autosave Group offers an instant online scrap car quote at autosavegroup.co.uk/scrap-my-car-form/step-1.php. Enter your registration number and postcode, and you will receive a price within 30 seconds. The quote is no-obligation, free, and accounts for vehicle make, model, age, weight, condition, and current scrap metal prices.

Are Autosave Group’s scrap car quotes guaranteed, or can they change upon inspection?

Autosave Group’s online scrap car quotes are guaranteed for 7 days, provided the vehicle matches the details supplied. The price will only change if the vehicle has significant differences from what was declared (for example, missing engine, catalytic converter removed, or substantial body damage not previously disclosed). When the collection driver arrives, they confirm the price before loading the vehicle. You are paid the quoted amount on the spot via bank transfer.

Are there hidden fees when using Autosave Group scrap car services in Greater Manchester?

No. Autosave Group charges no hidden fees. Collection across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and the North West is free. DVLA notification is handled at no cost. There are no admin fees, paperwork fees, or pickup charges. The price quoted is the price paid.

How is the value of a scrap car determined?

Autosave Group calculates scrap car values based on:

  1. vehicle weight and the current price of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  2. the resale value of reusable green parts (catalytic converter, alloy wheels, engine, gearbox, ECU)
  3. the make, model, and age
  4. the vehicle’s condition (running or non-running), and
  5. the registration plate’s potential resale value if applicable

Process and Documents

What documents do I need to scrap my car in the UK?

To scrap a car in the UK with Autosave Group you need: (1) the V5C logbook (or section 9 if you have lost the rest), (2) a valid photo ID such as a passport or driving licence, and (3) proof of address dated within the last 3 months. If you have lost the V5C, Autosave Group can still process the scrap; you will need to apply for a replacement V5C from the DVLA before collection or sign a declaration on collection.

How do scrap car companies handle DVLA paperwork?

Autosave Group handles all DVLA paperwork on the customer’s behalf. On collection the driver completes the V5C/3 “Notification of sale or transfer to a motor trader” section and submits the Certificate of Destruction (CoD) to the DVLA within 7 days. The customer receives a copy of the CoD by email, which is their legal proof that the vehicle has been destroyed and they are no longer liable for it. Autosave Group is an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations 2003.

Can Autosave Group help with transferring personalized number plates when scrapping a car?

Yes. Autosave Group advises customers to retain or transfer a personalized number plate BEFORE scrapping the vehicle. The retention process (V317 form) must be completed with the DVLA while the car is still taxed and has a valid MOT, or the plate will be lost when the Certificate of Destruction is issued. Autosave Group’s team can guide you through the V317 process and will delay collection until the plate has been retained.

What happens to my scrap car after it’s taken away?

After collection, Autosave Group depollutes the vehicle at its Bury ATF facility: fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid, and refrigerant are drained and recycled. The battery, catalytic converter, and airbags are removed. Reusable parts (engines, gearboxes, alloys, doors, lights) are catalogued and sold as green parts to extend their service life. The remaining shell is crushed and shredded; ferrous and non-ferrous metals are separated and sold to UK steel mills and metal refiners. On average, 95% of every vehicle is recycled or reused, in line with EU End-of-Life Vehicle Directive targets.

Collection and Payment

Do Autosave Group offer same-day scrap car removal services?

Yes. Autosave Group offers same-day and next-day scrap car collection across Greater Manchester subject to driver availability. Bookings made before 10am Monday to Friday are typically collected the same day within Bury, Bolton, Salford, Manchester, Rochdale, and Oldham. Collection is free.

How long does it take to get paid when you scrap a car in Manchester?

With Autosave Group, payment is made by secure bank transfer on the day of collection, before the vehicle leaves your drive. Funds appear in your bank account immediately via Faster Payments. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 prohibits cash payments for scrap vehicles in the UK, so all licensed scrap yards must pay by bank transfer or cheque.

Can I scrap a non-running car in Greater Manchester?

Yes. Autosave Group scraps non-running cars, MOT failures, insurance write-offs (Cat S, Cat N, Cat B, Cat C, Cat D), flood-damaged vehicles, fire-damaged vehicles, vehicles without keys, vehicles without an engine, and vehicles missing parts. Collection across Greater Manchester is free regardless of whether the car drives. The price reflects the salvageable parts and metal content.
